Dual Credit at Gholson High School

Gholson High School is pleased to offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school through our dual credit partnership with McLennan Community College (MCC).

A dual credit course allows a student to earn both high school credit and college credit for the same course. Eligible students may begin taking dual credit courses as early as their sophomore year.

Why Take Dual Credit?

Dual credit can provide students with several benefits, including:

• Getting a head start on college coursework

• Earning college credit before high school graduation

• Becoming familiar with the expectations of college-level classes

• Potentially reducing the number of courses needed after high school

• Saving time and money toward a future college degree

Important Things to Consider

Dual credit is a wonderful opportunity, but students and families should understand that these are real college courses.

College grades are permanent.
Grades earned in dual credit courses become part of the student's official college transcript and may impact the student's future college GPA and academic standing.

Not every course transfers everywhere.
Many dual credit courses transfer to colleges and universities, but transferability can vary depending on the college, degree program, and major.

Students and families are strongly encouraged to research future colleges and degree plans before selecting dual credit courses to make sure the courses will support the student's long-term goals.

Getting Started with Dual Credit

Students interested in participating in dual credit should first review the program information and Student Enrollment Checklist provided on this website.

Information You Will Need

Before beginning the enrollment process, please have the following information available:

• Student's physical address

• Student's Social Security number

• Student's personal email address

• Student's phone number

• Parent or guardian's legal name

• Parent or guardian's email address

Please use a personal email address rather than a school district email address when requested during the MCC enrollment process.

MCC High School Pathways Portal

Students complete the dual credit enrollment process through MCC's High School Pathways Portal.

The portal provides a progress tracker that guides students and families through each step of enrollment, including required forms and documentation.

Important Reminder

Students should monitor the progress tracker regularly to make sure every required step has been completed and all documents have been received by MCC.

Submitting an application does not necessarily mean the enrollment process is complete. Students should continue checking their portal until all requirements have been satisfied.
